Finesse doors installed to separate the conservatory and kitchen-diner

Location: Leicester, UK

Customer: Vikesh Patel

Project Overview

When a conservatory does not feel like a natural part of the home, it can quickly become underused. That was the case for Vikesh Patel and his family in Leicester, who wanted to better connect their conservatory with their kitchen-diner.

The result was a more practical, more sociable layout that made far better use of the conservatory while maintaining light and flow throughout the home.

The Challenge: An Underused Conservatory

Although the conservatory brought in plenty of natural light, it felt separate from the rest of the home. The layout made it difficult to use as part of everyday living, so it was often left unused.

The Solution: Internal Bifold Doors

To solve this, the family chose to incorporate the conservatory into a new extension rather than remove it. Having already invested in the space, they wanted to make better use of it and create a more natural flow between rooms.

After initially considering standard internal doors, Vikesh discovered Vufold Finesse internal bifold doors at Grand Designs in Birmingham. The ability to fully open up the space while still having the option to divide it when needed made them the ideal solution.

six-foot set replaced the original uPVC doors, while a ten-foot set was installed to create a flexible division between the conservatory and kitchen-diner.

The Result: Flexible, Connected Living Space

The new layout transformed how the space is used. The bifold doors allow the family to open up the area for entertaining or close it off when needed, creating a more practical and sociable living space.

“We do a lot of entertaining with our extended family and friends, so we need a good amount of space. With the bifold doors we now have flexibility, and all the spaces flow together. So many of our friends comment on them.”

Vikesh also highlighted the ease of installation, completing most of the work himself. Despite the size of the doors, the process was more straightforward than expected, adding further value to the project.
