After years of use, your patio doors may need replacing due to gradual wear and tear. You might want to upgrade your doors to a more modern style, or opt for a set that offers better insulating properties than the system you currently have installed. French doors make a practical and attractive addition to any property, allowing lots of natural light to enter into a space and enabling you to fully open the aperture for ease of access to your garden or patio.

Whatever your reasons for considering replacing your patio doors with a new French door set, it's important that you spend some time researching your options beforehand, so you can make the right decision for you. Some of the things you should be thinking about are size, colour, material and style options, as well as purchasing from a reputable, high-quality door manufacturer.

Even once you've found a manufacturer that ticks all the right boxes, you'll still need to decide which one of their range of options will be the right choice for your property. At Vufold, we have four ranges of external French doors to choose from, one of which is the Elite.

In this article, you can find more in-depth information about the Elite range from Vufold, including the design and configuration options available.

Elite French door range overview

It's easy to see why the Elite French door range is a big hit with customers, as these doors look incredibly stylish and will blend in seamlessly with any style of property, both modern and traditional. These doors are designed to complement our oak bifold door range of the same name.

The doors also boast a very high-quality spec and are constructed from an engineered hardwood core and 3mm real oak veneer. This balances structural stability and strength with a natural and warm aesthetic not achieved with colour finishes. As a testament to the strength of these doors, they come with a generous 10-year guarantee.

Elite French doors come with full-thickness, 24mm, low E, argon-filled double glazing units that use toughened tempered safety glass. This spec has a U-value of 1.1W/m2k and is compliant with European standards. With double weather seals, these doors are reassuringly thermally efficient.

While we appreciate that owners want their new external door system to look fantastic, security should be prioritised above all other considerations. Fortunately, the Elite range comes with a robust five-point lock system on the main access door which passes PAS24 and BS6375 requirements. For additional peace of mind, there is also an internal lockable bottom slide bolt and an internal top slide bolt on the slave door.

Another aspect to consider when purchasing new doors is how much maintenance might be required. Because the doors in the Elite range have been made from strong materials and a pre-coated finish, they've been designed with longevity in mind. This makes them a low maintenance option. However, any door constructed from wood will need occasional retreatment to ensure it remains in the best condition possible. We provide an oak care and finish kit as an optional extra with all Elite doors.

The doors are delivered for free in as little as three working days. Like any Vufold door system, everything you need for installation is included with the purchase, including hardware and handles.

Design and configuration options

Because customers have different preferences and requirements for their French doors, Vufold offers various design and configuration options within the Elite range.

We offer three different sizes for you to choose from:

  • 1.2m (4ft)

  • 1.5m (5ft)

  • 1.8m (6ft)

All sizes have a height of 2.1m. Should you need a different size to any of these, you can get in touch for quote on a bespoke size.

All Elite French doors are design to open outwards. This offers great convenience for those who don't have the internal living space for doors that open inwards, such as bifolds. All doors also come with hardware constructed of zinc alloy and stylish chrome or graphite handles. Plus, the hinges on the doors are adjustable, to make installation easier.

Is the Elite range right for me?

With a wide range of considerations to think about, you might wonder if the Elite French door range is right for you.

Thanks to the choice of different sizes and configurations, Vufold Elite French doors would make a perfect match for any property. The natural-look of the real oak veneer especially suits period properties and homes located in rural areas, as it complements the beauty of the surroundings. Timber doors never go out of fashion, so this is a style which will stand the test of time.

However, it's worth bearing in mind that Vufold door options extend beyond the Elite range if this one doesn't quite tick all your boxes. Our Master range of wooden French doors is slightly cheaper than the Elite ranges, and the doors in this selection are available in white or grey. Our Supreme and Status French doors are manufactured from aluminium and promise unrivalled performance, security and durability.
